At Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability through a series of innovative initiatives. Our commitment to eco-friendly practices is evident in various aspects of our operations, from the products we use to the systems we implement.
Biodegradable Products
We have made a significant shift towards eco-friendly alternatives by replacing all takeaway containers and plastic straws in our hotel restaurants with biodegradable containers and paper straws. This transition has notably reduced our plastic footprint, aligning with our sustainability goals.
Food Waste Monitoring System
Sim-Sim restaurant and main kitchen have adopted the Winnow food waste monitoring system. This advanced initiative allows us to effectively track and minimize food waste, fostering a more sustainable dining experience for our guests.
Energy and Water Savings Laundry Machines
Under the guidance of our Director of Laundry, Mr. Obaidul Bhuiyan, we have launched a sustainable laundry program in collaboration with Ecolab. By utilizing eco-friendly chemicals and optimal washing temperatures, we maintain hygiene standards while conserving water. Our laundry services employ two washing temperature methods—60 degrees for high temperature and 40 degrees for low temperature—achieving a remarkable 90% completion rate at the lower temperature which impact reducing around 30% in water consumption and significant saving in overall energy.
Solar Panels
Our commitment to renewable energy is highlighted by our solar panel installation, which harnesses solar power during daylight hours, reducing our reliance on natural gas for steam production. The system consists of 320 panels, each measuring 2.38m (W) x 0.090m (D) x 1.056m (H), covering a total area of 803 sqm and representing a significant investment in sustainable energy.
Tesla Supercharger Station
Supporting the growing use of electric vehicles, we have installed two Tesla Supercharger stations in our parking area, providing fast charging facilities for both guests and staff.
Waste Management
Sustainable waste management is a priority for us. We segregate used cooking oil, which is then collected by an approved company for recycling into biofuel. This initiative minimizes waste export and contributes to climate change mitigation efforts in the UAE.
Sustainable Offerings in Breakfast
Our breakfast menu emphasizes sustainability, featuring ingredients sourced from organic and local farmers. We proudly offer green products from “Fresh on the Table” and locally sourced cage-free eggs, promoting responsible consumption.
Marine Life Awareness Board
In 2022, we developed a "Marine Life Awareness" notice board displayed on our beach to enhance guest awareness of marine conservation. With an investment of $800, this initiative educates our guests about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
Global ESG Awards
Our dedication to sustainability has been recognized at the GLOBAL ESG AWARDS 2023, where we received a Platinum Award for "Safeguarding Marine Biodiversity" and a Gold Award for "Sustainability/CSR Team of the Year." These accolades reflect our unwavering commitment to sustainability and support for Rotana Earth's mission.
Unisoap Collaboration for Recycling Used Soap Bars
We are proud to collaborate with Marta Roman on the UnisoapUAE initiative, where our housekeeping team collects and segregates used soap bars for recycling. This partnership, in collaboration with Goumbook Unisoap, helps combat hygiene poverty and environmental degradation by distributing recycled soap to vulnerable communities in the UAE.
Blue Flag Certification
Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag certification, recognizing our commitment to sustainable beach and marina development. This international program emphasizes environmental education, stringent water quality standards, and annual compliance, making it a symbol of coastal excellence.
Abu Dhabi Mangroves Initiative
As a formal partner of the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative, we actively support research, conservation, and restoration efforts for mangroves and blue carbon ecosystems, contributing to environmental sustainability in the emirate and beyond.
Sustainable Laundry Products
In our pursuit of sustainability, we have eliminated two plastic products from our laundry department. We are introducing a new wrapping bag made from biodegradable vegetable starch, free from petrochemicals and easily home compostable . Additionally, we will utilize customized paper boxes for guest check-outs, further reducing plastic waste.
